If you are considering which Mercedes model is best? Then this article may be of help to you. We look at the range of Mercedes-Benzes models available and consider the benefits of each.
Mercedes-Benz Model Guide
As one of the world's leading car manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz in Germany produces a wide range of vehicles.
From expensive high-performance and luxury models to small, affordable family cars, Mercedes offer something for everyone. Additionally, each model is named in a sensible numbers and letters system. However, while it may be sensible, it can get a bit confusing.
Take Mercedes' SUV range, for example, there are the GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE and GLS models, each of which has nothing to do with the G-Class SUV! And this is all before you get into the technical differences, such as drivetrains, bodywork and engine sizes.
Essentially, the higher up the alphabet and the larger the numbers, the bigger the car and the more powerful its engine. While these numbers are used to denote the size of the engine, such as the E55 with a 5.5-litre engine, this isn't the case today.
Modern turbocharger and hybrid technology, especially in the hands of high-performance experts like Mercedes-Benz, means we can now get much more power from smaller engines.
Given all this, it is understandable that some might have trouble figuring out which Mercedes-Benz models are which and what their names mean. Luckily for them, we've compiled a model guide for Mercedes-Benz vehicles here.
A-Class
A-Class Mercedes vehicles are the manufacturer's most affordable small cars on the market. Since its debut in 2018, the A-Class has been split into two versions: sedans in the USA and hatchbacks everywhere else.
They're available in Front Wheel Drive and 4Matic Al Wheel Drive types, all with four-cylinder, 2.0-litre engines producing 188 bhp and over 200 lb-ft of torque.
C-Class
The C-Class covers Mercedes-Benz's compact cars. These vehicles come in a wide range of configurations, from two-door convertibles or coupes to four-door sedans.
Owners can fit each with a four, six or eight-cylinder engine producing varying horsepowers depending on which you choose, from 255 to 285 and 503 horsepower, respectively.
CLA-Class
The CLA-Class of Mercedes is sold as an entry-level, four-door coupe. The second generation of this model arrived in 2019, offering a 2.0-litre, inline-4 turbo engine.
There are also two AMG versions, the CLA 35 with 302 bhp and the CLA 45 with 382 bhp. All the AMG CLAs come with an all-wheel drive, and the 45 version comes with a "drift mode" to disable the front axle drive.

CLS-Class
The CLS is a four-door coupe that looks as good as it drives. Since its inception in 2018, the model has grown through three generations to the point it is at now.
The CLS-Class is equipped with a 3.0-litre, inline-six turbo engine producing over 360 bhp and nearly 370 lb-ft of torque and is available in RWD or AWD. The AMG version, the CLS 52, offers a more powerful engine.
E-Class
The E-Class is one rank up from the C-Class in both size and price. The E-Class is available in various types, from sedans to wagons, coupes and convertibles, each with either a four, six or eight-cylinder engine.
Designed for comfort and with a sophisticated aesthetic, the E-Class is a real step above in quality for vehicles in the Mercedes-Benz range.
EQS
The EQS is Mercedes-Benz's fully-electric sedan. These cars have operated on a specifically designed E.V. platform since their launch back in 2021.
There are two main versions: the RWD EQS 450+ with 329 bhp and the AWD EQS 580 4Matic. Their designs have incredible aerodynamical efficiency and can travel up to 350 miles on a single charge.

S-Class
The S-Class is Mercedes' flagship sedan and one of their best models. Freshly launched in 2021, it is many an enthusiast's dream car. With both coupe and cabriolet versions, you can also opt for an efficient hybrid version.
As things stand, there are three types of S-Class to choose from: a six-cylinder S 500 producing 429 bhp, an eight-cylinder producing 496 bhp, and the Mercedes-Maybach version generating some real raw power.
AMG GT
As you can probably guess by now, the AMG GT is one of the highest-performance vehicles Mercedes-Benz produces.
The AMG GT offers some serious engine power, available in a two-door or four-door coupe and a roadster. The two-door version has a 4.0-litre, biturbo V8, as does the G.T. 63 and G.T. 63 S. The four-door version and the G.T. 53 have inline-six engines.
GLA-Class
The GLA-Class provides Mercedes' smallest and relatively affordable luxury SUV. Debuting in 2021, the GLA 250 is an FWD vehicle, while other models offer AWD drivetrains.
Sleeker than its sister model, the GLB, the GLA also comes in an AMG model, with the GLA 45 offering 382 horsepower for those in search of good power and a comfortable ride.

GLB-Class
The GLB Mercedes is a boxy small car that is the bridge between the GLA and the GLC. The first GLB-Class cars rolled off the production line in 2020 and have a more spacious and traditional SUV shape than other models.
The base models produce over 220 bhp with both FWD and AWD versions. The AMG GLAB 35, however, produces over 300 bhp.
GLC-Class
The GLC-Class is Mercedes-Benz's mid-level version of the small SUVs, similar to the C-Class for their saloon cars. It comes in a range of engines from four to eight cylinders, and there is a plug-in hybrid version.
All GLC versions come with either FWD or AWD, and you can opt for a sleeker coupe-style version or a traditional SUV shape.
GLE-Class
One step up from the GLC, the GLE-Class is a mid-sized luxury SUV, similar to the E-Class saloons. It is a direct descendant of Mercedes' previous luxury SUV, the M-Class and first appeared in 2019.
Again, there are plenty of engine options, with either an inline-four, six or V8 configurations available. You can also fit them with five or seven seats, with the base version, the GLE 350, coming in RWD.

GLS-Class
The GLS-Class is the top-of-the-range, full-sized, three-row SUV that Mercedes produces. It is similar to the S-Class of saloon cars but is still cheaper than the top-of-the-top G-Class. There is also an eye-watering Mercedes-Maybach version, and all of them come with 4Matic AWD.
G-Class
The G-Class, or "G-Wagen", is the angular off-road-capable mid-sized SUV that has become famous since its inception in 2018. You have the choice of two versions, the G 550 with 416 bhp and the AMG G 63, producing 577 bhp.
The G 63 is recognised as one of the most dependable all-rounders on the market today. Though, as a premium SUV, owners will want to keep a keen eye on their fuel meter.
Best Mercedes Models Of The Decade
Mercedes is a name synonymous with almost any kind of transportation. From executive saloons to industrial equipment and motorsport, Mercedes are one of the world's leading auto manufacturers.
But their constant push toward perfection means it can be said that some of Mercedes' greatest models have been produced in recent years. So we've decided to take a trip back over the past decade to look at some of the more notable ones.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class
One of the best Mercedes-Benz cars, nothing quite comes close to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. This flagship model is not only available in the standard sedan version but also a coupe and a hybrid engine configuration.
For the past decade, the S-Class had been unrivalled in terms of luxury, high performance and features within the sedan class.
With a V12 under the bonnet producing 621 horsepower, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class beats rivals such as BMW, Porsche and Audi in the same price bracket.
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
The SLS AMG was a huge undertaking for Mercedes-Benz. Billed as the spiritual successor to the famous 300SL "Gullwing" of the 1950s and similar to the SLR McLaren, the SLS AMG soon became a must-have for all car enthusiasts.
The limited electric variant is one of the most powerful production cars the company ever produced, generating an eye-watering 740 horsepower from its 6.2-litre V8 engine. However, the public wasn't ready for that kind of power, and the model was discontinued in 2015.
Mercedes-AMG G.T.
Easily one of the most stylish cars Mercedes produced in the past ten years; the AMG G.T. was another brilliantly original model.
The long, low bonnet housed a stunning V8 engine that produced up to 577 horsepower, taking inspiration from the brand's earliest sports cars.
This power helps the G.T. to get from 0-to-60 in just 3.5 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class
The GLC-Class is one of the best compact SUVs currently on the market. While the model retains much of Mercedes-Benz's luxury aesthetics and build quality, surprisingly, it comes at a relatively affordable price point compared to similar models, such as the Audi Q5 or the BMW X3.
The lower price but consistency in quality is what has made the GLC such a successful model. From its predecessor, the GLK, the GLC was given a longer wheelbase of 120mm to provide extra room for the interior, while the turbocharged engine produces between 241 bhp to 503 bhp.
Mercedes-Benz EQC
The EQC is Mercedes' debut in the electric vehicle market. The EQC runs on a lithium-ion battery pack producing 80kWH with two electric motors generating up to 402 horsepower as a fully-electric SUV.
The EQC is based on the current GLC model, but for a heavy SUV, the electric motor can get from 0-60 in an impressive 5.1 seconds. The EQC demonstrates how Mercedes is fully embracing the future of the automotive world by providing an SUV with all the Mercedes-Benz luxury and comfort that runs entirely on electric power.
Mercedes-Benz G-Class
Everyone is familiar with the G-Class. It has become a hallmark of luxury with its instantly-recognisable boxy and unique design that stands in a class all of its own.
Matching opulence with premium off-road performance in a modern SUV was quite the feat, but what else would you expect from Mercedes-Benz?
The luxuriously comfortable interior is matched in its attention to detail only underneath the bonnet. Depending on the configuration, the G-Class engine can produce between 416 bhp and 577 bhp, making it an aesthetic and engineering marvel of the past decade.

Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
Mercedes' SL-Class is the latest in the manufacturer's luxury sports car convertibles. However, the lightweight aluminium frame twinned with newly powerful 6.0-litre petrol engines makes the S.L. stand out from the crowd.
With 630 horsepower, Mercedes produced the AMG version to rival other luxury convertible sports cars such as the Lamborghini Aventador. However, alongside the innovative power output, the SL-Class stands apart in the excellent quality of the luxurious interior.
Mercedes-AMG C 63 S
While the C-Class sedan is taking over the compact sedan market, beating rivals such as the Genesis G70 and the Audi A4, it's the AMG C 63 S that has made its way onto our list.
This coupe arrived in 5015, bringing 503 horsepower from its 4.0-litre V8 engine. With a 0-60 of just 4 seconds and a top speed of up to 180 mph, there isn't a better entry-level sports car anywhere else.
Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class was already attractive enough, but Mercedes thought to do one better and release a luxury sedan version.
Alongside all the A-Class features, the sedan version offers a roomier 15.1 ft³ storage area in the rear, creating even more legroom inside the car.
With a 2.0-litre engine as standard, the A-Class Sedan offers plenty in terms of both performance and practicality. Besides the BMW 2-Series, there really isn't a car to stand up to the A-Class Sedan.

Mercedes-AMG G.T. 63 S
The AMG G.T. 63 S is a visionary combination of a high-performance supercar with the comfort and luxury of a sedan, with Mercedes setting a high bar for its competitors. It is amongst the fastest four-door sedans globally, pushing luxury sedan performance to the absolute limit.
The G.T. 63 S has a twin-turbo V8 that produces 664 lb-ft of torque and 630 horsepower, getting from 0-60 in a speedy 3.1 seconds.
